News

Greater Albany Public Schools announces the following administrative changes and assignments for the 2020-21 school year. These changes are in addition to the previous administrative assignments announced on May 1. 

South Albany High School

• Kelly Bussard, principal at Oak Elementary for the last eight years, will be the new assistant principal at South Albany High School working with new principal John Hunter. 
• Assistant Principal Richard Shaw will be assigned to another position within the district. 

Clover Ridge/Meadow Ridge Elementary

• Elisa Stephens, principal for the former Clover Ridge Elementary, will be the new Lafayette Elementary principal.
• Christy Gill will be principal at the new Meadow Ridge Elementary. Ms. Gill has worked in K-12 education for more than 29 years – all in the state of Oregon – most recently serving as the assistant principal at Prairie Mountain School in the Bethel School District since 2018. She worked in the Bethel School District since 2013, previously as the district’s Administrator for Student Achievement and as a Literacy Teacher on Special Assignment. Before moving into administrative roles, Ms. Gill was an elementary reading specialist and began her career as a teacher. Ms. Gill holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Oregon and also completed an Initial Administrator Licensure program at the university in 2017.
• Sue Turner will be the assistant principal at the new Meadow Ridge Elementary. Ms. Turner has been with Greater Albany Public Schools since 2015, serving as a kindergarten teacher at Oak Elementary. Prior to coming to Albany, she was a teacher in the North Clackamas School District for 17 years. Ms. Turner has degrees from Azusa Pacific (bachelor’s) and Lesley University (master’s), a teaching certificate from Point Loma Nazarene University, and earned an Initial Administrator licence from George Fox University in 2014. 

Oak Elementary

• Kelly Bussard, principal at Oak Elementary for the last eight years, will be the new assistant principal at South Albany High School.
• Shanda Brown will be the new principal at Oak Elementary. Ms. Brown has worked in the Salem-Keizer School District nonconsecutively since 2004, holding positions as an elementary literacy teacher, an ESOL teacher, an instructional coach, and most recently as a Title IA program assistant since 2016. She took a break from Salem-Keizer to work for the Oregon Department of Education from 2012 to 2016 as an education specialist focusing on school improvement for priority and focus schools. Ms. Brown earned degrees from Western Oregon University (bachelor’s) and Willamette University (master’s) and completed the Leadership 2000+ program at Portland State.

Lafayette Elementary

• Principal Jodi Smith left the district to pursue a new opportunity in Arizona. 
• Elisa Stephens, principal for the former Clover Ridge Elementary, will be the new Lafayette Elementary principal.

The search for the next Albany Options School principal is ongoing.

Preparatoria South Albany High School

Per Board policy, a student will be admitted to kindergarten at the school in their boundary area if his/her fifth birthday occurs on or before September 1, or is a kindergarten student transferring from a public school in another district.

In accordance with guidelines from the Oregon Department of Education, the Greater Albany Schools District will be engaging students in distance learning during the COVID-19 closure, as well as continuing to offer a variety of online and offline OPTIONAL (non-graded) resources and activities

These resources are organized by grade level and subject.  Our goal is to provide an OPTIONAL online resource and offline (not technology-based) resource for each activity.   You will see ideas scheduled as a day so you can move through things at your pace. Our goal is to provide support for you to structure your time as it best fits your family. Materials should be considered supplemental and optional until ODE’s Distance Learning for All initiative begins on April 13.

All district resources can be accessed by students on non-district computers by using the district passwords; students who are logged into their student Google accounts can access passwords here. Passwords are also posted in Clever and Google Classroom.
